Air fryer grilled cheese introduction

What You Need

Ingredients for air fryer grilled cheese

  • Bread slices (classic sandwich bread works well)
  • Butter (room temperature) or cooking spray
  • Cheese slices (cheddar cheese slices are used here)
  • Toothpick (optional, for thin bread)

How to Make It

  1. First, preheat the air fryer to 370 for about five minutes. Proper preheating is key for many air fryer recipes, including delicious air fryer fried shrimp.
  2. While this is warming up, butter the outsides of your bread slices.
  3. Now we’re going to assemble the sandwich. The cheese is going to go in the middle. The buttered sides are on the outside.

  1. If you’re using classic sandwich bread, which tends to be airy and thin, you’re going to use a toothpick to secure the sandwich. This is going to prevent that bread slice from flying around in the air fryer while it’s cooking.
  2. Now that the air fryer is preheated, take your grilled cheese sandwich and place it in the basket. If you’re making more than one sandwich, make sure that they are in a single layer, just as you would for perfectly crispy air fryer potatoes.
  3. It’s going to air fry at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for two to three minutes on the first side.
  4. Then, open the air fryer, flip it over, and air fry for another two to three minutes on the second side.
  5. Once done, take your beautiful grilled cheese right onto your cutting board, remove the toothpick, and then slice it through the middle.

Recipe Notes

Butter Tip

Butter at room temperature is going to spread like a dream. No butter, no problem, just spray the tops of the bread that will go on the outside of the sandwich.

Cooking Time

The first time you make it in your air fryer, you want to keep an eye on it because every air fryer is a little different. That’s why we say two to three minutes, so you don’t want to risk burning your beautiful golden crust. This careful approach ensures success for all your air fryer creations, including easy garlic parmesan chicken wings.
