Ingredients

Ingredients for chocolate chip cookies

  • Butter
  • White sugar
  • Brown sugar
  • Egg
  • Flour
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Chocolate chips or actual chocolate bar

Step 1 & 2: Preparing the Butter & Sugar Mixture

Mixing butter with sugars and egg

  1. Cut the butter into small pieces. The key to making these cookies is to heat the butter just enough that it starts to melt but not to the point that it comes to a boil. If your butter’s hot what’s going to happen is one the chocolate will melt and two your cookie dough will spread out like crazy. You can clearly see I do still have some bits of unmelted butter. That’s how I know my butter isn’t hot and by touching the bowl obviously.
  2. I’ve added the white sugar, the brown sugar, and the egg and you want to mix these until well combined.
  3. I’ve added the flour, baking soda, and salt. Do not skip the salt.
  4. Over the years I really started to love using an actual chocolate bar in my cookies. You get bigger chocolate chunks and the quality is better. Do you have to do that? No, I recommend it but you can use chocolate chips or even a mixture of different chocolates. Use what you like. If you enjoy working with chocolate for your desserts, consider making an easy two-ingredient chocolate ganache recipe for other treats.
  5. Now as promised we’re going to bake these straight away. A lot of recipes and a lot of my recipes will tell you to chill the dough. We’re not going to do that for this recipe so onto your baking sheet lined with some parchment paper.
  6. You’re going to form eight cookies leaving enough space between each cookie. I like to give the cookies a quick roll between my hands and add more chocolate chips if you like. I like to do that.
  7. You’re going to bake these in a preheated oven at 180 degrees celsius or 350 Fahrenheit for about 10 to 12 minutes.
  8. When you take these out of the oven you’re going to let these sit on the tray just for about three minutes. They’ll continue to set up.

Final Notes

Chocolate tip cookies are very special to my heart. I think it was the very first cookie I had when I moved to America. Back in the day so I want to say 30 years ago chocolate tip cookies were not a thing in Italy. The only cookies I knew were crunchy so I was blown away by the texture of chocolate tip cookies. I never knew a cookie could be soft and gooey or even enjoyed warm.

These really do speak for themselves. That’s what I love about these delicious desserts. You can really get a feel of the texture. The middle piece right there is the best part, that one right there. Let me know if you’re a middle piece person or an outer crispy piece person. Whichever person you are you have to make these because these are amazing.
