Cooking and Serving Tips for Banana Munchkins

Cooking Tips

What we’re looking for is really, really liquid mash. We don’t want to see any huge visible trunks.

If you’re not able to find banana extract, it’s totally okay. You can go ahead and leave it out. For another fruity twist on a baked good, consider making homemade blueberry muffins with lemon zest.

You don’t want to over mix this batter as soon as all the flour is incorporated.

You just don’t want your oil to be too hot or too, what is it? Cool. If it’s too hot, your donuts are gonna burn and if it’s too cold, they’re gonna soak up too much oil. So, just be mindful of that. Achieving the perfect fried texture is key, much like getting soft and chewy oatmeal cookies just right.

If you don’t want them to be this brown, just go ahead and use less cinnamon.

They won’t take very long because they’re so small and when they’re done, you’ll see them just floating on the top like that.

You could add cinnamon but because I had so much cinnamon in the batter, I’m just gonna go ahead and omit that.

Serving Suggestions

Guys, go ahead and serve these with your coffee or your tea. They also pair wonderfully with easy homemade ice cream for a decadent dessert.

Thank you so much for watching and to my new subscribers, I really do appreciate you. Thanks so much.

Easy Homemade Banana Munchkins Recipe for a Tasty Snack

Say goodbye to plain banana bread! These easy homemade banana munchkins are a delightful, bite-sized snack perfect for satisfying your sweet cravings. Quick to make and irresistible.

  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for batter)
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon banana extract (optional)
  • 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  1. In a large bowl, mash the ripe banana until it is very smooth, ensuring no large visible lumps remain.
  2. Add the egg and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the mashed banana. Whisk thoroughly until the mixture is well combined.
  3. Pour in the milk, vanilla extract, and banana extract (if using) into the wet mixture. Whisk until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and freshly grated nutmeg.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter; stop as soon as no dry streaks of flour remain.
  6. Allow the batter to rest for 10-12 minutes. This brief resting period helps the baking powder activate and the flour to fully hydrate.
  7. While the batter rests, heat 2 cups of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Aim for a temperature of about 350-360°F (175-180°C).
  8. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter (about 1 tablespoon each) into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches.
  9. Fry the banana munchkins for 1-2 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and float to the surface. Turn them gently to ensure even cooking.
  10. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried munchkins from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  11. While still warm, transfer the munchkins to a bowl containing 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Toss gently to coat them evenly on all sides.
  12. Repeat the frying and coating process with the remaining batter until all munchkins are cooked.
  13. Serve your delicious homemade banana munchkins warm, alongside your favorite coffee or tea.
