Cooking Tips

Cake Pops Cooking Tips

We’re going to let it sit on our countertop and cool for a little bit.
You could put it near a refrigerator if you want to.
Try to avoid the edges and the sides if you at all possibly can, just because those pieces tend to be a little bit on the crunchy side and we just want fluffy cake.
You can use your hands here if you want to, but to avoid all of the necessary comments that I know I would get.
If I use my hands, I’m going to use forks.
I’m just kidding, you guys are pretty cool.
Don’t do any more than that because I think I put a little bit too much in this batch, and they were a little runny, but they were still delightful.
You can use parchment paper if you like.
You obviously do not need to purchase any of this stuff.
I have purchased this stuff over the course of years, so don’t feel like you need to purchase any of this stuff.
This kind of just helps shape them and make sure that they are all the same size.
It doesn’t like do all of the work for you, which was what I was hoping because I’m lazy.
I noticed that if I didn’t, it looked like either a butt or a brain.
Whenever I dipped them in, nobody wants to eat butt and brain.
I know whenever I make cake pots, I feel like I spend an eternity just rolling out little balls, but honestly, it pays off guys. These things are so good. For another delightful treat, consider making buttery melt-in-your-mouth shortbread cookies. And honestly, if you want to, you could make several batches at once and then maybe even freeze them.
I always put mine in the refrigerator just because I feel like that preserves them a little bit better.
Just because I don’t need that much quite yet, I don’t need the whole pack quite yet.
You just want to put them in your regular freezer, that’s completely fine too.
But definitely leave them in here for about 20 to 30 minutes to allow the cake pop to kind of set a little bit and not fall into a comp.
Once you stick it into the candy melts.
The trick is to add about a tablespoon of coconut oil or some kind of unflavored oil into your candy.
because if not, the stuff is like going to look like glue.
You can use styrofoam if you like. You don’t have to buy that.
The main tip that I have for you guys is to pull these out of the freezer about 10 at a time.
Because as they’re sitting on the countertop, they get back room temperature and then they start to fall apart.
A lot of people will use like a tall glass cylinder or something like that and melt their candy melts in the microwave, which is absolutely, you can do that.
Do that if that’s what you got. That way you can get your cake pop kind of down in there better.
But they sometimes end up dripping anyway. It’s not a big deal.
These cake pops set up really quickly like within a couple of minutes they have hardened.
So beware because your family will have them eat in before you have them all made.
I know that because that has happened to me in the past.

Serving Suggestions

You can definitely change this based on the holiday.
You can make little bats if you want to.
If you are creative, I’m not getting into all that because I would just be saying some bad words trying to make different shapes.
and stuff like that, but please do.
And if you do, let me know which ones you make.
You can do all kinds of different shapes and sizes with these cake pops. You don’t have to just do round balls. If you enjoy chocolate treats, try our easy fluffy fudgy chocolate cupcakes. And I found these sprinkles that totally make them look like you bought them from.

Easy Homemade Cake Pops Recipe with Simple Ingredients

Learn how to make delicious homemade cake pops that are so good, your guests won’t be able to tell the difference from store-bought. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients and steps to create perfectly moist and delightful cake pops, perfect for parties or a sweet treat.

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) perfectly moist classic white cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 container (approx. 8 oz) creamy vanilla frosting
  • 1 package (approx. 12 oz) pink chocolate candy wafers (or desired color)
  • 24-30 treat sticks
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or other unflavored oil (for candy melts)
  • Assorted sprinkles (optional)
  1. 1. Prepare the cake batter: In a large bowl, combine the classic white cake mix, three eggs, one cup of water, and half a cup of vegetable oil. Mix according to package directions until smooth.
  2. 2. Bake the cake: Pour the batter into a greased and floured baking pan (typically 9×13 inch) and bake as directed by the cake mix box until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. 3. Cool the cake: Once baked, let the cake sit on the countertop and cool completely to room temperature. This is crucial for proper cake pop consistency.
  4. 4. Crumble the cake: Once the cake is completely cooled, tear it apart into fine crumbs, placing them into a large mixing bowl. Try to avoid any overly crunchy edge pieces for the best texture.
  5. 5. Add frosting: Add about half of the container of creamy vanilla frosting to the crumbled cake. Start with less and add more if needed.
  6. 6. Combine ingredients: Using your hands or a fork, combine the cake crumbs and frosting. Mix until the mixture comes together and resembles cookie dough in consistency. Be careful not to add too much frosting, as it can make the mixture too runny.
  7. 7. Form cake balls: Roll the cake mixture into small, uniform balls, approximately 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. You can use a small cookie scoop to ensure consistent sizing. Place the formed cake balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. 8. Chill cake balls: Place the baking sheet with the cake balls into the deep freezer for about 20 to 30 minutes. This will help them firm up and prevent them from falling apart during dipping.
  9. 9. Prepare candy melts: While the cake balls are chilling, melt the chocolate candy wafers. Place them in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until completely smooth. Stir in about a tablespoon of coconut oil or unflavored oil to thin the candy melts to a dippable consistency.
  10. 10. Insert sticks: Remove the chilled cake balls from the freezer. Dip the tip of a treat stick into the melted candy coating, then insert it about halfway into each cake ball. This helps secure the stick.
  11. 11. Dip cake pops: Work with about 10 cake pops at a time, keeping the rest in the freezer to stay cold. Dip each cake pop into the melted candy coating, ensuring it’s fully covered. Gently tap the stick on the side of the bowl to remove any excess coating.
  12. 12. Decorate and set: Immediately after dipping, decorate the cake pop with sprinkles if desired, before the coating sets. Place the dipped cake pops stick-side down into a styrofoam block or a tall glass to allow the candy coating to harden completely. The coating sets quickly, usually within a few minutes.
  13. 13. Store: Once the candy coating is fully set, store the finished cake pops in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep them fresh.
