Ingredients for buttery breadsticks laid out

Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. First off, in the bowl of your stand mixer, we’re adding one cup of warm water, about 110 degrees Fahrenheit, 240 mils.
    2. To that, I’m adding two tablespoons of sugar.
    3. And of course, our star ingredient is one package, quarter ounce of active dry yeast. That’s two and a quarter teaspoons.
    4. Give that a whisk, and we’re gonna set this aside for about five minutes or until it’s nice and foamy.
    5. In the meantime, melt three tablespoons of butter in a little bowl.
    6. Right now, I’m gonna add two cups or 240 grams of all-purpose flour.
    7. Three tablespoons of melted butter, but if you want, you could use oil instead.

Mixing dough with stand mixer dough hook

  1. It’s time to grab your mixer and a dough hook, and we’re gonna mix this up. Pop that bowl on. Along with your dough hook. We’re gonna mix this on low until it’s just combined.
  2. We’re gonna add in half cup of all-purpose flour, 60 grams. Just sprinkle it in as it mixes.
  3. I’m also adding one teaspoon of salt. Sprinkle that in.
  4. Everything’s added in. I’m gonna increase my speed to medium right now and mix this for about six minutes until it is nice and smooth.
  1. Grab a big bowl, and I’m actually gonna just gonna use a little bit of butter that didn’t get poured out to grease this up.
  2. This delicious dough needs to rise for about 45 minutes or until it’s doubled in size in a nice warm cozy place.
  3. If you’re looking for a warm cozy place, just either turn your oven light on and leave it in there, or sometimes I’ll let my oven warm up to 100 degrees, turn it off, and then pop my bread in. Just got a nice cozy place to hang out.
  4. Loosely cover with a damp towel, and now this goes in to rise.
  5. 45 minutes later, it’s nice and cozy in this bowl. It’s huge. This is a massive pile of dough.
  6. Before I do that, let’s preheat our oven to 400 degrees.
  7. Okay, I’m gonna use my spatula to get this out of the bowl, because I can tell it’s gonna be a little bit stuck. I was stingy with my butter for once.
  8. Lightly flour your surface. I’m gonna dump this out. Flour the top, because I learned my lesson.
  9. So the challenge right now is to divide this into 12 equal pieces. So I shaped it into a rectangle, and I’m gonna divide that in two for six pieces.
  10. I’m gonna put it into a nine inch rope. So on your lightly floured surface, just give a little stretch, give it a little roll, and just be gentle with it.
  11. Lay each of these onto a parchment lined baking sheet. You want about two inches of space between each breadstick because they are gonna rise a little bit more and puff up.
  12. I’m just arranging the last one on my baking sheet right now. I’m gonna cover these loosely and let them rise for about 30 minutes until they’re noticeably puffed.
  13. In the meantime, we’re gonna make a delicious butter for them. I melted about two tablespoons of unsalted butter.
  14. Add the garlic right into the warm butter.
  15. I want about half a teaspoon of salt. If you wanted to use salted butter, you could totally do that and just add like a pinch less if desired.
  16. Now we’re just gonna give it a little bit of a mix.
  17. Bake in the preheated 400 degrees Fahrenheit oven until golden and beautiful.
  18. As soon as your breadsticks come out of the oven, it’s time to coat them in everything delicious. When your breadsticks come out of the oven, brush it on magic.
  19. But first, I just wanna show you really quickly. This is bottom, center, it’s actually equally baked and delicious, but this looks slightly different just in case you panic once you get them baked.

  • For the Breadsticks Array
  • For the Garlic Butter Glaze Array
  1. 1 In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 1 cup warm water (110°F), 2 tablespoons sugar, and 1 package active dry yeast. Whisk gently and set aside for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture is nice and foamy.
  2. 2 To the yeast mixture, add 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 3 tablespoons of melted butter (or oil). Attach the dough hook to your mixer and mix on low speed until just combined.
  3. 3 Gradually sprinkle in the remaining ½ cup of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt as the mixer continues to run on low.
  4. 4 Increase the mixer speed to medium and mix for about 6 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. 5 Lightly grease a large bowl with a little butter or oil. Transfer the dough to the greased bowl, cover loosely with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm, cozy place for about 45 minutes, or until doubled in size. (You can turn your oven light on or warm the oven to 100°F and then turn it off to create a warm environment.)
  6. 6 While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. 7 Once the dough has doubled, lightly flour your work surface. Gently remove the dough from the bowl (use a spatula if it’s sticky) and place it on the floured surface. Lightly flour the top of the dough.
  8. 8 Shape the dough into a rectangle and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  9. 9 Take each piece of dough and gently roll and stretch it into a 9-inch rope.
  10. 10 Arrange the breadsticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring about 2 inches of space between each one, as they will rise further.
  11. 11 Loosely cover the breadsticks and let them rise for another 30 minutes, or until noticeably puffed.
  12. 12 While the breadsticks are undergoing their second rise, prepare the garlic butter glaze: Melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Add garlic (finely minced or garlic powder) and ½ teaspoon of salt to the warm melted butter. Mix well.
  13. 13 Bake the breadsticks in the preheated 400°F (200°C) oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and beautiful.
  14. 14 As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, immediately brush them generously with the prepared garlic butter glaze. Serve warm, optionally sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.
