  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (inferred)
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 cup and a half assortment of peppers and onions (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 (24-28 ounce) jar tomato sauce (or homemade tomato sauce)
  • 8 ounces spaghetti (half a box)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or to taste, from ‘crushed whipped peppers’)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (or to taste)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
  1. 1. Set your Instant Pot to ‘Saute’ mode on high.
  2. 2. Add a tablespoon of olive oil (inferred for browning) to the Instant Pot, then add the ground turkey. Break it apart with a spoon and brown it completely. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  3. 3. Once the ground turkey is browned, add the assortment of diced peppers and onions to the Instant Pot. Sauté with the turkey for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.
  4. 4. Stir in the crushed red pepper flakes, garlic salt, Italian seasoning, dried basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything well to coat the turkey and vegetables with the seasonings.
  5. 5. Reduce the Instant Pot ‘Saute’ heat to low. Add the minced garlic cloves and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the garlic is fragrant and lightly browned.
  6. 6. Pour in the tomato sauce. Increase the ‘Saute’ heat back to high.
  7. 7. Let the sauce simmer on high ‘Saute’ for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken to your desired consistency.
  8. 8. While the sauce is simmering, cook the 8 ounces of spaghetti in a separate pot of salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente (approximately 7 minutes). Drain the spaghetti and, if desired, rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process (as per cooking tip).
  9. 9. Once the sauce has simmered, cancel the ‘Saute’ function on the Instant Pot.
  10. 10. Serve the Instant Pot ground turkey sauce generously over the separately cooked spaghetti. Garnish with fresh parsley for a touch of color and freshness, if desired.
