Easy pull pork recipe in the slow cooker

Ingredients

Ingredients for slow cooker pulled pork

  • a Boston blight
  • one whole onion
  • some Everglades rub seasoning or you can use any other type of rub seasoning or spices that you like
  • some barbecue sauce (I like the sweet baby rays. Once again you can use whatever barbecue sauce that you want.)
  • a little bit less than a quarter cup of water

Let’s go ahead and get into it.

Instructions

1. Putting the Boston Butt in the Slow Cooker

All right, so we put the Boston but in the slow cooker.

2. Adding Rub Seasoning

Seasoning Boston butt in slow cooker

What I like to do is once I put the Boston but in the slow cooker, I like to take my Everglades rub and then I’ll sprinkle it on while it’s in the slow cooker. That way any of these spices will get down in there and it’ll make it a little bit more flavorful. And what I do is while it’s in here, I just rotate it on all sides, just get a good coat. I’m going to think as this Boston but cooks down, all that fat is going to release a lot of juices, which are then going to soak in the rub, which is just going to give it more flavor. I’m doing it this way, I feel like I’m not wasting any of my rub as it falls off.

3. Adding Barbecue Sauce

All right, after we’ve got the rub all put on, next thing we’re going to do is we’re going to throw in our barbecue sauce using the sweet baby rays today and with this all you do is you just put it right there on the top. Like to get a good coat right there on the top of it. Once again as this cooks down, the sauce is going to go down and get into all of the fat that has rendered and it’s going to be, so we’re just going to fall in love and become marvelous.

4. Adding Onions

Now I take the onions and just put the onions on top and down the side. A lot of people are asking, you know, they say that this might be a lot of onions, one whole onion. You can do half if you don’t really like the, you know, a large onion flavor. However these are going to cook down as well, it’s going to release a lot of juices and everything’s just going to fall in love perfectly.

5. Adding Water

All right, now that we have that, all we’re going to do is we’re going to put a little bit of that water in, it’s, I put in a little bit less than a quarter cup of water and it’s just to keep the bottom of it moist, why it starts that cooking process.

6. Putting on the Lid

All right, now we go ahead and put the lid on.

7. Cooking the Pulled Pork

All right, with the lid on, we got to plug in, we’re going to start it, mine goes to select program, I’m going to move it to 10 hours in there, and then I get on low.

All right, we’ll see y’all back, back here, once it’s done.

Final Product and Serving

Pulled pork shredded and ready to serve

All right, guys, this is the final product, you can see that pulled pork looks delicious in there. I don’t have any gloves on, this is still hot. See how that bone pulls right out?

Now, there’s a ton of juice in here, there’s like I told you, I’ll see if we can get this better on camera. So, there’s a ton of juice in there. I like to save some of this juice, put it in a bowl or basically a topware. And I’ll pour some of this back into the container for the leftover pulled pork. That way, when you reheat it, you have a lot of this juice left in there.

All right, so we’re going to transfer it over to the bowl, we’ll show you how we just pull it apart with the fork. And then that’ll be it. All right, guys, this is that pulled pork here in the pan. You can see it got some of the onions still in here. We like it mixed in with ours if you don’t, you just pull it out, it’s a big deal. But with this, all we do is just take the fork, we just pull it apart. As you can see, this is super, super tender coming apart. Very easy. That fat is rendered nicely.

You can see I like to do a lot of smoke, a lot of stuff on a pellet grill. While we often enjoy making pulled pork on a pellet grill, this slow cooker method offers a hands-off approach. If you’re looking for another savory main course, try our easy crispy oven baked chicken thighs recipe. But, you know, you got to stay here and maintain it. This way of doing pulled pork, you do not have to stay, you just set it in there and then you forget about it and come back. Whenever you get to it, this was on there 10 hours, then it switched over to warm. I think it’s been on warm for about an hour now. As you can see, it’s just pulling apart just nicely. Oh yeah, it’s going to be good.

All right guys, we can go in and try this pulled pork. Got some right here. Very tender. Extremely moist. Good pork. Got a lot of flavor. That Everglades rub. You can get that taste coming through. Definitely good.

Well, there’s a lot of things that you can do with this pulled pork. Make pulled pork tacos, pulled pork sandwiches, pulled pork sliders, all that stuff. One of our favorite ways to cook this pulled pork is going to be through pulled pork quesadillas. So, if you want to check that out, you’ve got the video linked right here. Easy Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Recipe for Tender Flavor

Discover how to make incredibly tender and flavorful pulled pork with minimal effort using your slow cooker. This recipe delivers juicy, fall-apart pork, perfect for sandwiches, tacos, or any BBQ feast.

  • 1 (4-6 lb) Boston butt (pork shoulder)
  • 1 whole onion, sliced or chopped
  • 2-3 tablespoons dry rub seasoning (e.g., Everglades rub or your favorite blend)
  • 1.5 cups barbecue sauce (e.g., Sweet Baby Ray’s or your preferred brand)
  • A little bit less than 1/4 cup water
  1. Place the Boston butt (pork shoulder) into your slow cooker.
  2. Generously sprinkle your chosen dry rub seasoning over all sides of the pork while it’s in the slow cooker, rotating the pork to ensure a good, even coat. This helps the spices get down into the meat for more flavor.
  3. Pour the barbecue sauce over the top of the seasoned pork, ensuring it’s well coated.
  4. Place the sliced or chopped whole onion on top of and down the sides of the pork. (Note: You can use half an onion if you prefer a less intense onion flavor, but the onions will cook down significantly).
  5. Add a little bit less than a quarter cup of water to the slow cooker, pouring it around the base of the pork. This helps keep the bottom moist during the initial cooking process.
  6. Securely place the lid on your slow cooker.
  7. Set your slow cooker to the LOW setting and cook for 10 hours, or until the pork is incredibly tender and easily pulls apart.
  8. Once cooked, carefully remove the pork from the slow cooker and transfer it to a large bowl or pan. The bone should pull out easily if present.
  9. Using two forks, shred the pork into desired pieces. You can mix in the cooked onions if you like them.
  10. Save some of the delicious cooking juices from the slow cooker. You can pour some back into the shredded pork to keep it moist, especially for any leftovers. Serve your tender pulled pork warm.
