When I dropped my daughter off at school yesterday morning, one of the other moms was wearing her hair in a half-up top knot, and I couldn’t help but stop and stare at her. I’ve seen this top knot look in various magazines over the last few months, but never in person, and I was amazed at how effortless and stylish her hair looked. I have been sporting the messy bun for months now, and LOVE how chic it looks…
…but the top knot combined with beach waves is beyond gorgeous.
Of course, I studied that poor woman’s hairdo a little longer than I should have, which likely made her uncomfortable (especially since I was sporting workout clothes, unwashed hair, and next to no makeup), so I raced home, loaded up YouTube, and spent the remainder of my day figuring how to get her gorgeous look in an effort to make up for my frumpiness at school pickup.
As it turns out, there are heaps of different ways to wear your hair in a half-up top knot, and after a lot of trial and error, I found 3 fabulous top knot tutorials I couldn’t wait to share with all of you.
1. Half Up-do Top Knot by Zoella
If you prefer a more structured look, this half-up top knot is for you. My hair has too many short layers in it to pull this one off, but I love how versatile this updo is. You can smooth out the top of your hair for a more professional day-time look, and then remove small strands to frame your face before hitting the town for happy hour.
2. How to Create the Half-Up Top Knot by E! Entertainment
If you’re more of a fan of the messy look, you will LOVE this top knot. It’s perfect for a night out with the girls, and since it takes MINUTES to do, it will likely become my go-to style on mornings when I can’t be bothered to wash my hair but still want to look fashionable.
3. Half Up Top Knot Hairstyle Tutorial by Luxy Hair
This is a fantastic look for people who have bangs. I love how effortless this top knot is, and how easily Mimi is able to personalize it for her own style. Also? Her hair extensions look amazing…
If your hair is on the short side, these looks will work best with second (or third!) day hair, a little bit of dry shampoo, and a small amount of hair wax and/or hair spray to keep short layers in place.
